Comparison: programs to download videos from YouTube

Who does not know YouTube? This famous site that has launched the careers of some, sunk in the mud at others and, above all, the fact that millions of people spend hours watching silly video after another. Since his popularity began to grow like wildfire, there have been many who wished to stay forever, for whatever reason, with a copy of that video so much liked.
Although some time ago this was a somewhat complicated task, as there were many programs for it, or not too good, fortunately today there are plenty of alternatives that also are free.
YouTube Catcher

This program is one that supports more pages of different video hosting. Our comparison is especially the case of downloading from YouTube, which is the most popular and the most it will be used, but still, knowing that it is compatible with almost a hundred pages gives you the assurance that bad luck you must have if it is not compatible with the page from which you want to download a video.
Interface, along with VideoTodo only found in Spanish, is both simple and advanced, for the most demanding users. A normal user who just wants to download a video without more, enter the address, the path where the recording, the format conversion (if desired), and ready, while another may want to take an advanced look at the advanced resolution, bitrates, aspect ratio, and codecs, both audio and video. In fact, it is by far the configuration program that allows more accurate the resulting video.
The list of export formats that are at par, being also the largest by far, and including, almost as a curiosity-even animated GIFs.
In turn includes a number of additions which, although not too accessible to be "hidden" in the tools menu, there are therefore less useful. This is the case of the "grabber" FLV, detecting files of this format that we see as we surf the Internet and downloaded in batches, two tools that do not appear in any of the other programs.
Best: Advanced only if you need
Worse: Additional tools are not translated, are confusing or redundant
Save2pc Light

As its name suggests, save2pc light is very light, or light. This is a shortened version-free-the same program. There is a program that excels in many aspects, but if we were to find one, it would certainly ease of use. Not that the rest are difficult to use because, as we have seen, YouTube Catcher is really easy and it is in Spanish, which does not happen with save2pc, but if we consider that the program only has two or three sections that play, no room for error.
Unfortunately, in this case, age is simply lack of options (there), so that if we are not happy with the resulting video quality, there is nothing to do. In addition, yet the list of possibilities-for example pages that is compatible with: only YouTube, or the list of formats that becomes: only two-free version is not up to the rest of the programs compared.
Best: Easy to use
Worst: Very limited features
TubeMaster
TubeMaster is a program that, while he paints really well, has not taken off completely. For example, approximately ten ready-page elements, which is compatible with ranks second from bottom.
Its strong point is given in an interface that vaguely recalls programs like Ares or eMule, at least as far as structure is concerned, and the integrated search. Most times you want to download a video, is because I just saw (I’d bet that on YouTube), but other times it may happen that I’m not sure what you’re looking for. Should you go to all these online video sites and search? Why, if you can do from TubeMaster? It is much faster, easier and also works really well. It does not happen like in the other program which provides integrated search, VDownloader, where we have failed our tests it worked.
As for the conversion of FLV to other formats pervasive, more manageable as AVI, is a bit more complex to present in the simpleton save2pc, but it is still quite behind that of YouTube Catcher. Does not support too many formats: AVI video only compatible with iPod and PSP, so if your idea was fun to your mobile phone supports 3GP, you’ll need another program, or a converter.
The best: Integrated Search
Worst: Convert a few formats
VDownloader

This program is arguably similar to TubeMaster in several respects. While VDownloader supports two of websites, the video search TubeMaster is better; VDownlader can shoot video ready for playback on iPod, PSP and mobile, but do not have integrated video viewer (if we discard the integrated browser)
True TubeMaster interface, without being the quintessence of art-is a bit more careful, but not that it is something really important in this type of program.
Video Conversion FLV to other formats, which can only be done with downloads from the Internet and not from files already on our team, is also similar to TubeMaster although, as already mentioned, you can do to format 3GP, VCD, DVD and AVI in different qualities, some options that we could not choose in TubeMaster.
The best: effective monitoring clipboard
The worst: The integrated search on YouTube does not stop working well
VideoTodo

VideoTodo is one of the most popular in terms of downloading videos from YouTube are concerned. In addition, it is probably also the most confusing. Not that I do not take a genius to use it, but the interface is quite overloaded, coupled sections are not clear enough, unnecessary tabs, floating windows and "download methods" beyond the understanding of the average user, have caused the flight more than a terrified, screaming "but I just wanted to download a video!".
Barring the interface could be improved a lot, we have an application very useful and functional, ready to download and convert videos to the most common formats and devices (AVI, DVD, 3GP, PSP and MP3) from more than 50 pages and, if We ignore the author, from virtually any web page, if we use shock methods already mentioned.
The best: Support web sites
Worst: confusing interface
Conclusions
The truth is that while any of the programs used for the most common function: download a video for viewing on your computer, usually in AVI format, a program that certainly stands above the rest.
If we consider that the download speed depends on your connection speed and, above all, saturation at that time have the page that hosts the video, and leave all programs fall in third (almost all in ffmpeg, to be exact) the conversion tasks, we can only find a determining factor in choosing one or the other program is how comfortable it is and the options at our disposal.
Given this, it’s YouTube Catcher, with its native support for nearly hundred pages, a list of conversion formats than the rest but, above all, its complete configuration, the only one who will be able to satisfy both users beginners and advanced.
It is not a perfect program, not at all, but the nearest approach of the competitors. It lacks an integrated search engine as functional as the TubeMaster, plus the ability to view videos from the program itself. Have to wait and see if the developers are encouraged, and not fall into the temptation of Shareware, clouds lurk on VideoTodo yes.
